Online reactions intensify after Pastor Jerry Eze’s old prayer for Alex Ekubo resurfaced following the actor’s death.
A Twitter user identified as Mr Mekzy has sparked debate online after questioning why popular cleric Pastor Jerry Eze was unable to heal late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo despite previously praying for him publicly.
The reaction followed reports that Alex Ekubo died on Monday, May 11, at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
The actor’s family confirmed in a statement that Alex Ekubo passed away at Evercare Hospital following what they described as a brief but courageous fight against the illness.
Amid the mourning, a video resurfaced online showing Pastor Jerry Eze praying for the late actor, prompting renewed discussions about faith healing and miracles.
Reacting to the clip on Twitter, Mr Mekzy said the situation had left him confused and struggling with questions about faith.
“Things like this really confuse me,” the user wrote.
“This pastor heads NSPPD, and a whole lot of people have gotten healed. Yet this is the same man laying his hands directly on Alex, and he still passed on.”
The user added that the development had shaken his faith and raised difficult questions for him personally.
The conversation quickly gained traction on social media, with users expressing mixed reactions.
While some defended Pastor Jerry Eze and argued that healing outcomes ultimately rest with God, others questioned public claims surrounding miraculous healings.
The discussion has also revived past criticisms from media personality Daddy Freeze, who has repeatedly challenged Nigerian clerics over miracle testimonies and healing claims.
Daddy Freeze previously questioned why gospel singer Yinka Ayefele, who has used a wheelchair for years, had not been healed despite reports of miraculous recoveries linked to some ministries.
The broadcaster had also criticised Christ Embassy founder Pastor Chris Oyakhilome after the cleric claimed to have raised dozens of people from the dead.
Daddy Freeze publicly challenged the statement at the time, referencing the deaths of singer Mohbad and actor Mr Ibu.
In another instance, the media personality faulted Apostle Joshua Selman after the preacher recounted an experience in a mortuary where he was unable to raise the dead despite praying and quoting scriptures.
The death of Alex Ekubo has continued to generate emotional reactions across Nollywood and social media, with fans and colleagues remembering the actor for his calm personality, talent and grace.
