Pastor Bisola Badejo Advises Women to Set Aside Feminism in Marriage

Pastor Bisola Badejo advises women to prioritise submission at home while defending autonomy, sparking online debate on faith, feminism, and marriage

Nigerian pastor, author, and CEO of Celebration Church International, Bisola Badejo, has advised women to set aside feminist principles within marriage, while upholding their autonomy outside the home.

Speaking during a widely circulated interview, Pastor Badejo explained that marriage is a sacred institution governed by biblical guidelines.

She said wives are expected to submit to their husbands, while husbands are commanded to love unconditionally.

Using an analogy from Covenant University, a Christian institution in Nigeria, Badejo illustrated her point: just as students must adhere to strict campus rules while freely acting outside, women should observe marital guidelines at home but maintain their independence in broader society.

She clarified that submission does not equate to oppression or loss of identity. “Submission is a voluntary act of partnership that maintains dignity,” she said.

The pastor added that men should abandon cultural behaviours that undermine equality, emphasizing Christ as the ultimate leader in the household.

Badejo’s remarks sparked a wide range of reactions online. Some Nigerians agreed with her perspective, praising the balance of faith and autonomy, while others argued that feminism is about asserting dignity and mutual respect, even within marriage.

Earlier, a Nigerian woman on TikTok revealed that applying feminist principles at home had created conflicts with her husband, leading her to step back from the ideology.

She later returned to her former lifestyle, focusing on teaching women about submission in marriage.
