Nigerian singer Omawumi has revealed that her career took a major leap forward after working with award-winning music producer Cobhams Asuquo, describing his early support as a turning point.

Speaking with Hip TV, the singer shared how their first collaboration unexpectedly led to a major endorsement deal and a lasting professional bond.

“The first time we met, he just called… ‘Omawumi, this is Cobhams Asuquo—you know he likes to funkify his name. There is a song I want you to do,’” she recounted with a smile.

Omawumi said the opportunity didn’t seem significant at the time, but after recording the track, it was picked up by an agency, landing her a two-year brand ambassador deal.

“Cobhams taught me a lot of nuances when it comes to delivery and posture,” she added, emphasizing how the collaboration helped sharpen her artistry and performance skills.
