Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has urged social media users to stop shaming women over their age, marital status and childbearing choices in an Instagram message shared on Monday, August 10, 2026.

The actress spoke against the increasingly common practice of making women the subject of online ridicule because they are unmarried, childless or perceived to be getting older.

Blessing said people who make such comments may have little understanding of what the women concerned are experiencing privately.

“Take it easy on always reminding a woman she’s getting old and unmarried, childless, etc. You never know the battles they fight behind the scenes,” she said.

Her comments came alongside a separate warning to women who are seeking marriage, children or other personal desires through religious intervention.

Blessing advised such women to be cautious of people offering prophecies about deeply personal matters, particularly where such claims could make vulnerable individuals easier to manipulate.

“In everything you do in this life, and as a woman seeking the face of God for anything, be it a child, husband or anything at all, please and please beware of fake prophecy,” she said.

The actress’s message reflects a wider conversation around the pressure placed on women to meet socially expected milestones, particularly marriage and motherhood.

Online commentary about a woman’s age or relationship status can sometimes appear harmless to outsiders, but Blessing argued that repeated remarks can be deeply hurtful when they touch on circumstances that may involve fertility struggles, personal loss, relationship difficulties or other private challenges.

Her appeal has since attracted attention online, with several social media users expressing support for her call for greater empathy towards women.

Blessing has previously spoken about the pressure surrounding marriage. In June 2026, she questioned the tendency to present marriage as a measure of personal fulfilment and said she did not envy married people.

The actress was previously married to Ekiti politician Opeyemi Falegan, although their relationship ended in 2022.
