Comedian I Go Dye Calls Urgent Police Reform Over Brutality Concerns

Nigeria police reform call intensifies as I Go Dye urges IGP to tackle brutality, ensure accountability and restore public trust in law enforcement

Popular comedian and social commentator Francis Agoda, widely known as I Go Dye, on Wednesday issued a strong Nigeria police reform call, urging Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to urgently address rising concerns over police brutality, accountability and public trust in Nigeria’s law enforcement system.

In an open letter, the entertainer expressed deep concern over the reported killing of a young boy in Warri, describing it as part of a troubling pattern that continues to strain relations between citizens and the police.

He warned that repeated incidents of alleged misconduct have significantly eroded public confidence, leaving many Nigerians fearful during interactions with officers who are meant to provide protection.

I Go Dye referenced the legacy of the End SARS protests, describing them as a defining moment that exposed widespread frustration with policing practices and the urgent need for systemic reform.

He insisted that officers found guilty of unlawful killings or abuse must face full criminal prosecution, not merely internal disciplinary measures, arguing that accountability must be both transparent and decisive.

According to him, failure to address these issues effectively could deepen public anger and potentially trigger renewed unrest, stressing that the current moment represents a critical test for police leadership.

The comedian called for improved training, better welfare for officers and a renewed focus on community policing built on trust, respect and professionalism.
