In a candid interview with Madame Joyce, Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, popularly known as Nasty C, revealed that his addiction to alcohol went unnoticed at first because of his high tolerance.

According to the rapper, he drank nearly every day, consuming a variety of alcoholic beverages including vodka, whisky, cognac, tequila, and rum.

“I was addicted to alcohol. I was drinking every night,” Nasty C confessed. “Every time I went to the studio, restaurant, or had a performance—I drank.

My tolerance was very high. I would be the last one to get intoxicated, and that’s dangerous, because you can’t see the damage until it’s already happened.”

The Nasty C alcohol addiction story sheds light on a darker period in the life of one of Africa’s most prominent hip-hop artists. He said the turning point came when he became concerned about ageing.

“I gave up alcohol because I don’t want to get a ‘phuza face’,” he said, referring to a South African term that describes the appearance of someone who looks much older due to excessive drinking. “It’s when you age really quickly because you drink a lot of alcohol—you start looking 10 years older than you actually are.”

Nasty C’s decision to quit drinking has drawn widespread praise from fans, with many commending his honesty and maturity.
