This October, Lagos will take centre stage as Nigeria welcomes the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), led by the iconic Wynton Marsalis, for the first time ever.

A nine-time Grammy winner and Pulitzer Prize laureate, Marsalis has performed on every major global stage — and now, in 2025, his trumpet will echo through Victoria Island as part of Runway Jazz 2025. But this is more than a concert. It is history bending into harmony.

The festival, co-curated by the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria and the African Union Sixth Region Global (AU6RG), unfolds across three days, weaving diplomacy, art, fashion, and youth empowerment into a single breathtaking event.

Wynton Marsalis Lagos concert is the centrepiece of a cultural trilogy.

October 4 begins with The U.S. Ambassador’s Diplomatic Reception, themed Business in Harmony, where jazz softens political edges and sets the tone for global investment talks.

October 5  sees the main concert at Landmark Centre, where  JLCO  will collide in sound with Nigeria’s finest jazz icons, in front of 5,000 guests — from ambassadors to artists, moguls to style legends.

October 6 completes the arc with a Youth Jazz Masterclass, where Marsalis and his ensemble pass the flame to Africa’s next generation of jazz voices.

Runway Jazz, backed by brands like Samsung, MTN, and Multichoice, has always been more than music. It’s a runway for ideas, for cultural diplomacy in motion.

In 2025, it becomes a global highway, connecting Lagos to the diaspora through rhythm, business, and beauty.

The event also coincides with AU6RG’s “Year of Return”, reminding the world that Africa is not only a source but also a destination — for creativity, for collaboration, and for communion.

And Lagos? Lagos will not just host. It will declare. With Marsalis on the horn and Nigeria’s talking drums in response, the world will hear a different kind of power — the kind that moves through melody, through memory, and through meaning.

Wynton Marsalis Lagos concert is a moment. Runway Jazz 2025 is the movement.
