Nollywood star urges believers to reject bitterness and trust divine justice over personal grudges
Nollywood actress and producer Mary Remmy Njoku has issued a heartfelt warning against the practice of malicious prayers, addressing religious fanatics who seek to undermine others through spiteful supplications.
The mother of three shared her message on Instagram on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, cautioning that divine justice cannot be manipulated by personal resentment or bitterness.
“Dear religious fanatics, God justice cannot be guided by your grudges,” Njoku wrote. “Just because you go to church seven days a week or read the bible from Genesis to Revelation does not mean that hating someone and fervently praying for their downfall will cancel God’s favour upon their life.”
The 41-year-old Lagos-based star, who founded ROK Studios in 2013 and has starred in over 100 films, emphasised that God examines motives and honours genuine love and faithfulness.
She added that nothing backfires faster than directing harm towards someone who has offered kindness and support.
This latest intervention builds on Njoku’s recent public reflections on faith and society.
Earlier this month, she encouraged African Christians to match prayer with practical action when tackling issues such as poor infrastructure and insecurity, rather than relying on spiritual declarations alone.
Her message comes amid ongoing conversations in Nigerian religious circles about the power and limits of prayer, where some believers view intense spiritual warfare as a means to influence personal or national outcomes.
Njoku offers a balanced perspective, affirming the value of devotion while rejecting its misuse as a weapon against perceived rivals.
“God is not unjust, he sees the hearts, knows our motives and honours genuine love and faithfulness,” she continued in the widely shared post. “Bitterness may blind the heart, but it cannot blind God.”
Industry observers note Njoku’s growing influence as a voice of reason within Nollywood, where she balances her roles as content creator, executive, and mother.
Her candid posts often spark thoughtful discussions on personal growth, relationships, and spiritual maturity.
The actress’s words have resonated widely, with many praising her call for introspection and compassion in an era where online piety sometimes masks underlying envy or conflict.
