Speaking during a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, Joeboy explained that some artists approach collaborations with a competitive mindset rather than focusing on creative synergy.

The Joeboy collaboration ego comments came during a joint interview with fellow musician Wizard Chan, where both artists discussed challenges surrounding music features.

Joeboy said he prefers to work with artists he shares a cordial relationship with, as it helps eliminate ego clashes and unnecessary competition during recording sessions.

According to him, collaboration should not be a battle for dominance but a creative exchange that enhances the final output of a song.

He added that when he features another artist, he expects them to shine on the track, rather than compete with his performance.

Wizard Chan also shared his perspective, saying ego remains one of the biggest problems in collaborations within the industry.

He noted that some artists attempt to influence how their collaborators deliver verses, which he described as counterproductive.

The singer stressed that collaboration should allow each artist to bring their unique style without interference or comparison.

He further explained that the essence of featuring another artist is to introduce a different sound or perspective to the music.

Wizard Chan added that changing verses out of competition after hearing a stronger delivery undermines the purpose of collaboration.

Both artists agreed that healthy collaboration should be rooted in respect, trust and creative freedom rather than rivalry.
