Jaywon Slams Billboard Afrobeats List Over ‘This Year’ Snub

Jaywon slams billboard afrobeats list, claiming his 2012 hit ‘This Year’ had more cultural impact than any ranked track

Jaywon billboard afrobeats list drama is trending after Nigerian singer Oluwajuwonlo Iledare, popularly known as Jaywon, voiced his disappointment over being left off Billboard’s Top 50 Afrobeats songs list.

Taking to his X handle, Jaywon boldly declared that his iconic 2012 hit, ‘This Year’, had more viral moments and cultural relevance than any song that made the chart.

He emphasized the song’s enduring influence, stating it’s still celebrated by fans and fellow artists alike.

“‘This Year’ by Jaywon had more viral moments and cultural impact than some tracks Billboard decided to rank. Trending since 2012 and still going strong,” he wrote.

Jaywon pointed out that both gospel and Afrobeats artists continue to draw inspiration from the track’s sound and vibe.

Despite this, he says recognition has remained elusive.

He didn’t hold back, suggesting that “hate is inevitable” and that longevity should matter more than popularity spikes.

The singer also used the moment to reassert the song’s legacy:

“No song on that list has more cultural impact than ‘This Year’…!!”

This latest comment adds to a string of recent public statements from Jaywon, including his take on the ongoing feud between Davido and Wizkid, and a public apology to Ayra Starr over Grammy-related remarks.
