Iyanya Opens Up on Celibacy Struggles, Says Marriage Not a Priority

Iyanya celibacy journey revealed as Nigerian singer admits struggles and says he is not considering marriage for now

Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has spoken candidly about his ongoing celibacy journey, admitting that he has found it difficult to remain consistent.

The 39-year-old music star made the disclosure while speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, where he explained that his resolve to stay celibate often fluctuates, particularly when he meets someone he finds attractive.

According to Iyanya, moments of weakness are often followed by regret, as he finds himself missing the discipline and clarity that celibacy brings.

“My celibacy fluctuates; it goes up and down. Sometimes you are trying to stay celibate and you run into a girl who gives you all the reasons not to be celibate. You do what you have to do, you now start missing the celibacy again,” he said.

The singer also revealed that marriage is not currently a priority for him, noting that he is focused on personal healing and emotional growth.

“I am not thinking of getting married,” Iyanya said, adding that he has learned to be more honest in his interactions to avoid misleading others.

He explained that unlike earlier stages of his life, he now clearly communicates his emotional state to people he meets, stressing that transparency has helped him avoid hurting others.

“I’m healing. Don’t expect so much from me. I’m not in that space and I’m not going to lie to you or play with your emotions,” he added.
