IABC Africa Regional Board Elects First Nigerian Chair

The IABC Africa Regional Board has elected Dr Opeyemi Adeyemi as its first Nigerian Chair, marking a historic step in African communication leadership

The IABC Africa Regional Board has made history by electing Dr Opeyemi Adeyemi (FNIPR, SCMP®) as its new Chair for the 2025–2026 term.

He becomes the first Nigerian to lead the board since its inception, marking a significant milestone for the continent’s strategic communication community.

The election took place during the region’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, 25 June 2025. Members from across Africa joined the session virtually to vote and share insights about the future of communication in the region.

Dr Adeyemi is a respected scholar and practitioner with more than two decades of experience in corporate communications, stakeholder engagement and academic research.

He has previously served as Vice Chair of the region and as Director for West Africa, contributing to the growth and impact of the IABC across the continent.

“We are entering a new phase of purpose-driven leadership,” said Dr Adeyemi. “This board reflects our continent’s talent and ambition to raise the standard of communication worldwide.”

Alongside Dr Adeyemi, the newly elected IABC Africa Regional Board includes a strong mix of leaders. Christine Breet (SCMP®) will serve as Vice Chair. Camilla Osborne (SCMP) assumes the role of Past Chair and Director of Governance.

Theresa Lee (SCMP®) takes on Treasurer duties, while Riana Sinden (SCMP®) oversees Professional Development and Events.

Other key members include Chisimchere Chukwu as Director of the West Africa Interest Group, Carol Warui for East Africa, and Elsabe Coetzee for the Quills Awards portfolio.

Dr Adeyemi is also a recipient of the 2024 IABC Chairperson Award for his outstanding work on the “Stronger Together” global task team.

His academic credentials include a PhD in Communication Studies and multiple master’s and undergraduate degrees from Nigerian institutions.

He also holds certifications from the Global Communication Certification Council, Project Management Institute and the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes.

The IABC Africa Regional Board now embarks on a new term with a clear vision to elevate African voices, drive professional standards, and foster inclusive leadership in global communications.
