DC Comics cancels series over writer’s comments following backlash after a now-deleted social media post that celebrated the death of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The writer, Gretchen Felker-Martin, was set to lead a new comic book series under the DC banner.
However, plans were scrapped after she posted a deeply offensive comment shortly after Kirk was fatally shot in Utah.
Referring to the late activist as a “Nazi btch”\, Felker-Martin added, “Hope the bullet’s OK,”— a statement that immediately drew sharp criticism from both readers and industry professionals.
In response, DC Comics issued a statement distancing itself from the remarks:
“At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints.
Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.”
The publisher confirmed that the upcoming series involving Felker-Martin has been cancelled, making clear that it does not endorse violent or inflammatory speech from its contributors.
This development comes amid growing debate in the comic book world over how far creators should go in expressing personal political views online — especially when tied to real-world tragedies.
While some fans support the decision, others are questioning whether it raises concerns about censorship and freedom of speech.
