The veteran Nigerian comedian, born Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, addressed the incident in a candid video statement that has since drawn widespread attention.

Calling the assassination of U.S. conservative figure Charlie Kirk “tragic,” Alibaba expressed unexpected relief upon learning that the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, was not Black or Arab.

According to him, such an outcome would have risked inflaming racial tensions even further.

“I can’t put into words how relieved I was when I found out the suspect wasn’t Black,” said Alibaba. “It would have been worse.”

Alibaba reacts to Charlie Kirk assassination by also highlighting a broader issue: the racial profiling that often follows high-profile crimes in the West.

He implied that if the shooter had been a person of colour, the narrative could have turned dangerously political, with entire communities unfairly stigmatised.

Authorities have identified the gunman as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah.

Coming from a conservative, pro-gun Republican household, Robinson had reportedly become more politically vocal in recent years and had openly criticised Kirk during family gatherings.

Despite being a nonpartisan voter on record, those close to him described him as increasingly agitated by Kirk’s rhetoric, which he allegedly accused of “spreading hate.”

Robinson had once earned a scholarship to Utah State University thanks to a standout ACT score of 34 but dropped out after one semester.
