Davido music career reflections reveal the singer’s fear of leaving the industry too late and his plan to support celebrities after fame
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his biggest concern in the music industry, revealing that his greatest fear is not knowing when it is time to step away from his successful career.
The Nigerian singer said he regularly prays for the wisdom to recognise the right moment to retire, explaining that he does not want to continue performing beyond the stage where he can maintain the legacy he has built.
Davido shared his thoughts during a video broadcast, where he reflected on the challenges faced by public figures after years in the spotlight.
The singer said watching successful personalities struggle after losing public attention has made him think more deeply about the emotional impact of life after fame.
“That is my greatest fear. I have worked so hard for me to come and spoil it with something. I pray to God every day to show me the right time to pack it up,” Davido said.
The Grammy-nominated artist also revealed his desire to establish a therapy centre for celebrities, saying many entertainers experience difficulties adjusting when they are no longer at the peak of their careers.
“If there is one thing I could build, I would build a therapy centre for people who were popular and very successful people. Because it is crazy to be on top of the world and the next moment you are not,” he said.
Davido compared the pressure faced by entertainers with that experienced by athletes, noting that even individuals who achieve remarkable success can still face criticism after their careers reach a different stage.
He referenced football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that even after winning major trophies and achieving global recognition, public expectations remain extremely high.
The singer’s comments highlight the personal challenges that often come with long-term success, including managing public expectations, identity and purpose beyond professional achievements.
With a career spanning more than a decade and several international milestones, Davido continues to remain one of Africa’s most influential music figures while considering the importance of leaving the industry at the right time.
