Dabiri-Erewa celebrates Nigerians’ 2026 Grammy wins, highlighting Shaboozey, Tyler Okonma, and Cynthia Erivo’s global achievements

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has congratulated three Nigerians for their historic triumphs at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The honourees Shaboozey (Collins Obinna Chibueze), Tyler, the Creator (Tyler Gregory Okonma), and Cynthia Erivo (Cynthia Chinasaokwu Onyedinmanazu Amarachukwu Owezuke Echimino Erivo) were recognised for their exceptional contributions to music and culture on a global stage.

Dabiri-Erewa described their victories as a “powerful reflection of the creativity, excellence, and global impact of Nigerians and people of Nigerian heritage across the diaspora.”

She noted that the wins are not only personal achievements but moments of national pride.

The commission chair also acknowledged the ongoing contributions of Nigerian-based artists such as Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid, while emphasising that the family histories and ancestral origins of Shaboozey, Tyler Okonma, and Cynthia Erivo remain unmistakably Nigerian.

“Through their work, they continue to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural influence to the world,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

She urged media, cultural institutions, and Nigerians at home and abroad to adopt a broader understanding of national pride one that recognises and celebrates Nigerian excellence wherever it is found.

Highlighting the significance of the diaspora in strengthening national unity and global respect, Dabiri-Erewa added that these accomplishments serve as an inspiration for future generations.
