Carter Efe breaks Twitch record as Africa’s most-followed streamer after a livestream with Davido, gaining over 406,000 followers

Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has become Africa’s most-followed streamer on Twitch, surpassing compatriot Shank Comics.

The milestone came after a high-profile livestream with Afrobeats superstar Davido on Wednesday, which sparked a massive surge in followers.

Checks by PUNCH Online on Thursday showed Efe now boasts over 406,000 followers.

Shank Comics, who held the previous record, has approximately 233,000 followers.

Carter Efe gained roughly 160,000 followers in four days, rising from about 322,000 followers just a day prior.

The surge directly followed the announcement and execution of the joint stream with Davido.

The “Machala” crooner also set the record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, attracting around 83,000 viewers, and became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 Twitch subscribers.

During the session, Davido connected Efe with notable personalities, including his wife, nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, and even called out Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen also appeared on stream, adding a sporting dimension that thrilled fans and highlighted the crossover between Nigeria’s music and football scenes.

The livestream took an unexpected turn when content creator Enzo challenged Efe to an impromptu boxing match, “proving” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base. The moment generated widespread social media buzz.
