Lizzo fat-shaming lawsuit dismissed as singer clarifies she fired dancers over private video leaks, not appearance or weight

American singer and rapper Melissa Viviane Jefferson, professionally known as Lizzo, has been vindicated in a fat-shaming lawsuit in the United States.

The ruling, confirmed on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, establishes that the legal action accusing Lizzo of discriminating against three former dancers was unfounded.

The lawsuit alleged that Lizzo had terminated the dancers due to weight-related issues. Lizzo clarified in a statement on her verified Instagram account that the dismissals were prompted by the unauthorised sharing of private video recordings, not the performers’ physical appearance.

“There was no evidence that I fired them because they gained weight. They were fired for taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees,” Lizzo wrote.

Despite the positive outcome in the fat-shaming case, Lizzo remains involved in a separate legal matter, facing allegations of sexual harassment filed by the same former dancers. The singer emphasised that her focus remains on protecting her personal privacy and upholding professional standards within her team.
