Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy and Colombian music star Shakira have achieved a historic milestone with their World Cup collaboration ‘Dai Dai’, which has become the highest-charting World Cup song in history after surpassing the record held by ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’.

The song climbed 25 places this week to peak at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, overtaking Shakira and South African group Freshlyground’s 2010 tournament anthem ‘Waka Waka’, which previously held the record as the best-performing World Cup song on the chart.

The achievement marks another major career milestone for Burna Boy, whose global influence has continued to grow through international collaborations and performances.

‘Dai Dai’ also recorded strong success in other markets, reaching number three on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and competing for the top position on the United Kingdom’s Official Singles Chart.

The song was released as part of the musical celebrations surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has gained worldwide attention for blending Afrobeats sounds with Shakira’s signature pop style.

Burna Boy has previously broken international barriers for Nigerian music, earning global recognition with hits such as ‘Last Last’ and his Grammy-winning album ‘Twice As Tall’.

Shakira, meanwhile, has a long history with football anthems, having achieved worldwide success with ‘Waka Waka’, which became one of the most recognised tournament songs after the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Several Nigerian artists, including Wizkid, Mr Eazi and Rema, had previously topped the World Digital Song Sales chart, reflecting the increasing impact of Afrobeats on the global music industry.
