Boy Spyce Sparks Debate Over Women’s Submission

Nigerian singer Ugbekile David Osemeke, popularly known as Boy Spyce, has sparked an online debate regarding women’s submission and the role of protection in relationships.

The 24-year-old reacted to a tweet by X user Preye, who discussed how some men respond when women are in pain or discomfort.

Preye illustrated a scenario in which a woman wearing heels experiences foot pain.

She contrasted men who would carry the woman to ease her discomfort with those who would lecture her for choosing to wear heels.

“Some men will carry you when your feet hurt. Others will stand there and say ‘I warned you about those heels’. If he lectures you when you’re in pain, he’s not your person. The right one lifts first, talks later,” she wrote.

Boy Spyce countered the perspective, emphasising obedience to guidance and leadership within relationships.

“If you can’t submit to my leadership or guidance then I don’t owe you my protection. If I’m nice enough to still come through for you then you are in no position to dictate my process. Next time, listen, or be with someone you love enough to listen,” he stated on his social media page.

His comments quickly drew a range of reactions. Some users challenged his stance, questioning the notion of protection and whether it should be conditional.

“Protectors protecting women from other protectors will never make sense sha,” one user remarked, while another asked, “Wetin Una dey protect them from?”

Other social media users supported Boy Spyce, praising his perspective as thoughtful and requiring an open mind to understand.

“This is an intelligent perspective. It takes an open and intelligent mind to understand his position…..but it’s clear a lot of commenters are losing it,” a user commented.
