Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has described music as a powerful instrument for societal influence, saying it goes far beyond entertainment and serves as a form of “warfare” capable of shaping emotions, behaviour, and social consciousness.

The singer made the remarks in the For Bunmi documentary, where he reflected on the broader responsibility of artists and the impact of music on everyday life.

Bella Shmurda, known for his hit single Cash App, said music plays a vital role in society by offering emotional relief, promoting progress, and fostering a sense of connection among listeners.

“Music is warfare. Music is a tool for the society. Music is a tool of progress. Music is an instrument of goodwill,” he said.

He further explained that music helps people cope with emotional struggles, describing it as a medium that restores balance and uplifts the human spirit.

“Music is a tool to keep people sane, to put them in the right state of mind, to make them dance away their sorrow, and to make them feel alive and self-conscious,” he added.

Beyond his artistic philosophy, Bella Shmurda also revealed that fatherhood has significantly influenced his approach to music creation.

He said becoming a parent has made him more intentional about his lyrics and overall message, as he now considers how his work may be perceived by his children in the future.
