Anok Yai has been announced as the Model of the Year for the 2025 edition of the Fashion Awards, recognising her extraordinary impact on global fashion and representation.

The British Fashion Council (BFC) made the announcement on Wednesday via its official Instagram page, describing the South Sudanese-American supermodel as “a defining force in today’s fashion landscape.”

According to the council, the early reveal was made a month ahead of the Fashion Awards ceremony to celebrate and spotlight the individuals selected for this year’s honours.

In a statement, the BFC wrote:

A defining force in today’s fashion landscape, Anok’s impact transcends the runway – from redefining beauty standards to championing artistry and representation on a global stage. Her influence continues to shape culture and inspire the next generation.”

Born in Egypt to South Sudanese parents and raised in the United States, Anok Yai has become one of the most prominent faces in contemporary fashion. She is celebrated as the second Black supermodel after Naomi Campbell to open a Prada show, a moment that marked a new era of diversity on the European runway.

Beyond her iconic catwalk appearances, Yai has graced multiple international Vogue covers and fronted campaigns for leading global brands.

Her rise to prominence has been widely hailed as both a triumph of talent and a breakthrough in fashion’s ongoing conversation about representation and inclusivity.
