Ali Baba Defends Polygamy as Tension-Free When Wives Separate

Ali Baba defends polygamy, saying wives living separately reduces tension and jealousy, citing a real-life example on the Clarity Zone podcast.

Ali Baba defends polygamy as a workable family model, especially when each wife maintains her own residence, a structure he claims helps reduce domestic tension and rivalry.

Speaking on the Clarity Zone podcast, the veteran Nigerian comedian and social commentator, Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, said that polygamous arrangements tend to be more peaceful when wives do not live under the same roof.

“It’s easier to marry women who don’t live in your house with you. Those ones don’t come to disturb the Iyale (first wife),” he said.

Ali Baba illustrated his point with an example of a man with four wives, three of whom are homemakers, while the fourth is a medical doctor and successful entrepreneur.

According to him, the financially independent wife contributes to the household by supporting her husband, who then distributes funds among the other wives. This, he explained, creates relative balance—until jealousy sets in.

“One day, the woman says, ‘My son wants to go to Canada for school,’ and the others complain, saying their children aren’t going, so hers shouldn’t either,” he recounted.

The tension, he added, escalated when the doctor-wife withdrew financial support, resulting in a fallout that led to two wives leaving the marriage.

Ali Baba argued that the communal living of co-wives often breeds envy, competition, and conflict, which could be avoided if each wife lived independently.

His views sparked renewed conversation online, especially in light of his previous controversial comments on polygamy and gender roles. Supporters praised him for speaking candidly on a traditionally sensitive subject, while critics challenged the notion as outdated or patriarchal.
