Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo was honoured on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, as Nollywood stars, gospel musicians, and prominent dignitaries gathered at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos State, for his service of songs, marking a solemn tribute to the late film star.

Alex Ekubo service of songs drew a powerful mix of entertainment figures, religious leaders, and public officials who came together in a reflective atmosphere to celebrate the life and legacy of the actor, who passed away after a prolonged battle with advanced kidney cancer.

Among the dignitaries in attendance was former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, whose presence underscored the broad national attention the ceremony attracted.

Religious leaders Pastor Ituah Ighodalo and Pastor Jerry Eze ministered during the service, while gospel artistes including Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Moses Bliss, Mercy Chinwo, and the Laud Urban Choir delivered moving performances that set a deeply emotional tone for the gathering.

The event also saw a strong turnout from Nollywood, with actresses Funke Akindele, Dayo Amusan, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Ini Edo, Blessing Nze, and Ruth Kadiri in attendance. Male counterparts Ike Ogbonna, Stan Nze, Kunle Remi, and Mike Godson also joined colleagues in paying their respects.

Entertainment and media personalities including comedian AY, Frank Edoho, Cubana Chief Priest, Kcee, E-Money, Chike, and Yomi Casual were also present, reflecting the wide reach of Ekubo’s influence across the creative industry.

The service of songs formed part of a series of final rites ahead of his burial scheduled for June 18, 2026, in Ujari Village, Abia State.
