Adekunle Gold Speaks on Seamless Collaboration with Simi

Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold opens up about his smooth music collaboration with wife Simi, revealing how they support each other creatively in the studio

Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold has shed light on his creative partnership with his wife and fellow singer, Simi, describing their working relationship as both natural and effective.

In a recent interview, the singer revealed how Simi often contributes ideas and backup vocals to his songs, even without formal planning, making their collaborations seamless and spontaneous.

“My partnership with Simi is very seamless,” Adekunle Gold said. “When I write…So,Don Corleone, when I made the song, she was listening to the chorus when I made it, and she just said, ‘Well, she has an idea, that she wanted to add something to it. I’m like, okay, go for it. And then she just went, Go Kunle, and that was it. I’m like, oh, this is smart. And that’s it.”

The singer, who recently had a street in Lagos named after him, further shared that he also contributes to some of Simi’s music, providing input as both a colleague and supportive partner.

“She just does some backups, things that the song needs, and then that’s it. It’s just very easy,” he added. “When she writes the songs and sends them to me, I tell her what I think she should add to it, and that’s easy.”

Adekunle Gold and Simi, both celebrated artists in their own right, have frequently been admired not only for their solo successes but also for how they blend their professional and personal lives harmoniously.

Their joint track “Promise,” which doubled as a musical and wedding video, was a fan favourite and marked one of Nigeria’s most beloved celebrity collaborations.
