Wizkid Spotify streaming record hits 9 billion as Nigerian star becomes first African artist to reach milestone, led by ‘One Dance’ and ‘Essence’ hits

The Wizkid Spotify streaming record has entered the global spotlight, as Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, becomes the first African artist to surpass 9 billion streams on Spotify across all credits.

The Nigerian superstar’s most streamed track remains his 2016 global hit One Dance, featuring Canadian rapper Drake and British singer Kyla. The song alone has amassed over 3.7 billion streams and ranks among Spotify’s top 10 most streamed tracks of all time.

One Dance also earned a Guinness World Record for being the first single to surpass 1 billion streams on the platform, making Wizkid a certified part of streaming history.

His top-streamed solo effort is Essence, featuring Nigerian singer Tems, with over 303 million streams. The track became an international sensation and marked a turning point for Afrobeats on the global stage.

Wizkid’s milestone comes as global streaming figures continue to grow. American star Taylor Swift remains the most streamed artist on Spotify with over 1.5 billion monthly streams.
