Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and inaugurated by Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the former Nasarawa State Governor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s education sector.

“I cherish this four-year term appointment,” Al-Makura said, “because I am a trained teacher with extensive academic and political experience in education.”

He emphasized his background in teaching and past roles supporting basic education, both as a Governor and Senator.

The UBEC Chairman Al-Makura Appointment signals renewed commitment to revamping basic education in Nigeria. Al-Makura promised to work closely with Executive Secretary Hajiya Aisha Garba, whom he praised for her ongoing reforms since taking office in January.

Garba, in turn, expressed excitement about working under a mentor and fellow education advocate. “President Tinubu directed me to fix UBEC, and now I have a committed partner to do just that,” she noted.
