Temi Nkem’s BBNaija Season 11 victory has sparked debate after she edged Aikou by 2.19 percentage points in the final vote
The victory of Temitope Chigbue, popularly known as Temi Nkem, in the 11th season of Big Brother Naija has triggered a wave of mixed reactions online, with viewers divided over whether she deserved the crown.
Temi was crowned winner of the “Show Ya Sef” edition during the grand finale on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after 70 days in the Big Brother house.
The 21-year-old secured 25.87 per cent of the final votes to finish ahead of Aikou, who polled 23.68 per cent and emerged as the first runner-up. Sheba finished third with 9.80 per cent.
The 2.19 percentage-point difference between Temi and Aikou made the final result particularly close and became one of the main reasons for the debate that followed the announcement.
For some viewers, the result represented a deserved reward for Temi’s personality and memorable moments throughout the competition.
Others, however, argued on social media that Aikou had done enough during the season to win the competition.
One social media user, @iamZephyr01, said Aikou would have been a better winner and criticised his supporters for what the user considered an ineffective voting strategy.
“You guys gave Aikou the gambit and spoiled his game,” the user wrote.
Another viewer, @brenda_odi23217, also backed Aikou, saying he deserved the prize more than Temi.
“Nigerians y’all better do better next year. Vote for the ones that truly deserve the money,” she wrote.
The criticism did not stop with the contest between the two finalists.
Some viewers also questioned the significance of Temi’s UK background, with one social media user asking why a contestant who had been living in Britain should return to Nigeria to win the reality show’s prize.
That criticism, however, did not establish that Temi had breached any BBNaija eligibility rule.
Official and media profiles identify Temi as a 21-year-old content creator and Accounting and Finance student who was born and raised in London. Her father is from Ibusa, Delta State, while her mother is from Ebute Metta, Lagos.
The residency debate therefore remained a matter of viewer opinion rather than evidence of an irregularity in her participation.
Other viewers questioned the voting system itself, with some calling for stronger safeguards against alleged organised voting campaigns.
One user, @Jubeeton, suggested that the show should improve its voting process to prevent contestants or their supporters from allegedly organising groups to influence the outcome.
“I don’t know how… But you guys should improve in that voting aspect, so that someone inside cannot pay people to organise groups to vote for them,” the user wrote.
The comment was an allegation by a viewer and did not provide evidence that such conduct occurred during the Season 11 voting process.
Amid the criticism, other fans celebrated Temi’s victory and congratulated her.
The official result remains clear: Temi received the highest share of the final vote, followed by Aikou and Sheba. Multiple reports of the finale confirmed the same figures.
Beyond the voting controversy, Temi’s journey was one of the most eventful of the season.
She entered the house as one of 24 contestants and spent 70 days competing in tasks, nominations, Head of House challenges, evictions and several twists. The season also featured the Gambit twist and a fake eviction that temporarily altered the competition.
Her personality became a major part of her appeal during the show. The official BBNaija account described her as loud, playful and unpredictable, while highlighting her dramatic diary sessions and ability to remain at the centre of events in the house.
Temi also became involved in several of the season’s memorable moments, including the BB Bucks controversy, her relationship with fellow housemate Tram and the fake eviction twist.
By the final week, she had survived a field that had begun with 24 housemates and narrowed to nine finalists.
Aikou, who eventually finished second, had his own unusual route to the finale. He entered the competition as a Gambit housemate and survived several twists before securing his place among the final contestants. His 23.68 per cent vote share showed how closely the final contest was fought.
Temi’s victory also secured a substantial prize package.
She will take home ₦90 million in cash, a brand-new SUV and additional sponsored prizes, bringing the total value of the prize package to ₦160 million.
Her win also places her among the female winners of BBNaija, making her the fifth woman to claim the show’s top prize.
The season itself was notable for its unusual combination of twists and disciplinary developments. Reports noted that it recorded two disqualifications and a voluntary exit, making it the first BBNaija season to experience all three developments in a single edition.
Ultimately, the debate surrounding Temi Nkem’s victory reflects the nature of a reality show whose winner is determined by public voting.
While some viewers remain convinced that Aikou was more deserving, others have accepted Temi’s victory and celebrated her achievement.
What is not in dispute is the official result: Temi Nkem finished first with 25.87 per cent, narrowly ahead of Aikou’s 23.68 per cent, bringing the “Show Ya Sef” season to an end with one of the closest finishes of the competition.
