Omokri shared his thoughts in a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, where he also criticized the confusion between dowry and bride price in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“There is a huge difference between a dowry and a bride price,” he wrote.
“Bride price is only justifiable when the bride is a virgin. Anything else is extortion.”
Citing scriptures like Exodus 22:17 and Isaiah 62:5, and referencing Yoruba customs, Omokri insisted that African society has drifted from its moral roots.

“If virginity cannot be proven, the bride price should be returned,” he said, referencing the aso funfun tradition among the Lukumi Yoruba.
Omokri also emphasized that white weddings are not Christian traditions but European customs and called out what he described as “industrial money obtainers” among bride’s families.
His controversial stance has drawn criticism from across social media.
While some praised his attempt to uphold traditional values, others accused him of reinforcing outdated, patriarchal views.
