Portable says he has more hit songs than Davido

Portable more hits than Davido claim adds a fresh twist to the singer’s $1m hit-for-hit challenge and ongoing Afrobeats debate

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has boldly claimed that he has more hit songs than Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, amid a growing debate over music catalogues in Nigeria.

Portable made the claim in a recent video while responding to Davido’s challenge for music colleagues to participate in a $1 million hit-for-hit contest.

The controversial singer said he was ready to face Davido, arguing that his singles and collaborations had produced enough successful records to compete with the internationally recognised Afrobeats star.

“I get hit pass Davido,” Portable declared, insisting that his music catalogue contains more hits than Davido’s.

Portable also pointed to collaborations with established artistes as evidence of his musical impact, mentioning Olamide and British rapper Skepta among the artistes who had featured him.

“My featuring, my single was a hit,” he said.

The singer added that the major thing left for him was to enjoy the financial rewards of his music success, joking about using the proceeds to acquire luxury cars.

The claim comes shortly after Davido challenged his fellow artistes to a high-stakes hit-for-hit showdown.

Davido’s challenge has reignited discussion about how Nigerian artistes should measure the strength of their catalogues, with factors such as commercial success, cultural impact, longevity and streaming performance likely to influence any comparison.

Davido, one of Africa’s most internationally recognised artistes, has built a catalogue spanning several generations of Afrobeats listeners.

Portable, meanwhile, has established a distinctive presence through his energetic records, collaborations and outspoken personality.

The contrast between their careers has made Portable’s latest declaration particularly provocative, adding another entertaining layer to the ongoing conversation.

Whether the two artistes eventually face each other in a formal hit-for-hit contest remains uncertain, but Portable’s confidence has ensured that the debate is unlikely to fade quickly.

For now, the singer appears more than willing to defend his catalogue and challenge one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars on his own terms.
