Omotola charity film move sees all ‘Mother’s Love’ proceeds donated to Slum2School Africa for education support in Nigeria

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has made a bold philanthropic statement by committing all proceeds from her debut film Mother’s Love to charity.

The actress, marking her 30th year in film, announced that 100 per cent of theatrical earnings due to her company, RedHot Concepts, will be donated to Slum2School Africa.

The announcement was made during a private screening held on March 13, attended by over 200 guests, including members of the Makoko community in Lagos.

The initiative places Mother’s Love among a rare group of films globally recognised for full-scale charitable commitments.

Industry observers note that very few productions have pledged total proceeds, rather than profits, to social causes.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, a former ambassador for the World Food Programme, said the funds will support education programmes and housing assistance for vulnerable communities, especially in Makoko.

The Board of RedHot Concepts formally approved the donation, covering the film’s entire eight to ten-week cinema run in Nigeria.

Independent legal and auditing oversight has also been arranged to ensure transparency and accountability.

The film’s distribution in Nigeria is handled by Nile Entertainment.

The move stands out even when compared to notable global precedents.

For instance, Steven Spielberg donated personal earnings from Schindler’s List, while campaigns linked to Black Panther and Star Wars: The Force Awakens raised funds through targeted initiatives.

However, industry analysts note that those efforts were either partial or campaign-driven, unlike the comprehensive model adopted for Mother’s Love.

On the African continent, films such as Beat the Drum and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind have supported social causes, but none have matched the full-scale commitment seen in Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s latest project.
