Obi Cubana Reveals Wife’s Near-Death Ordeal After Birth of Son

Obi Cubana recounts his wife’s near-death ordeal and paralysis scare following childbirth, revealing how the crisis changed his life

Popular Nigerian socialite and businessman Obi Cubana has opened up about a terrifying period when his wife nearly lost her life following the birth of their son, Alex.

In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Cubana said the ordeal began after his wife delivered their child on Valentine’s Day.

A few months later, she began experiencing numbness in her arm. Initially, the family managed the situation while Cubana continued building his business empire.

The situation escalated on the day they were due to check out from a hotel in Abuja, when his wife collapsed. Doctors discovered a cyst and recommended immediate treatment abroad.

Cubana and his family flew her to South Africa, where her condition worsened, leaving her partially paralysed.

“At some point, she became half-paralyzed. It was terrifying,” Cubana recalled. During this period, rumours emerged claiming he intended to use his wife for rituals.

“It came from my friends, but it did not distract me. My only focus was making sure my wife got better,” he said.

After treatment, she was discharged using a wheelchair. A doctor cautioned Cubana: “Your wife will not die, but she may never walk again, and she may never have another child.”

Reflecting on the experience, Obi Cubana said, “When people see my wife and me today, they don’t know what we have been through.” He added that the ordeal has profoundly changed his approach to life and business priorities.
