Nigeria Launches Historic Music Hall of Fame Induction

Nigeria Music Hall of Fame induction set for Lagos as Foundation prepares historic ceremony honouring legendary artists and music industry pioneers

The Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation, LHMFF, has announced the launch of Nigeria’s first-ever Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, marking a historic milestone in the celebration of the country’s musical heritage.

The inaugural event is scheduled to take place in Lagos during the week of World Music Day on 19 June 2027 at the MUSON Centre, Shell Hall, bringing together some of Nigeria’s most influential music figures and industry stakeholders.

The ceremony will honour the Class of 2027, a carefully selected group of iconic Nigerian musicians whose work has significantly shaped Africa’s cultural and musical identity over several decades.

Founded as a non-profit organisation, the Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation aims to preserve the legacy of Nigerian music pioneers while inspiring future generations through education, innovation and historical documentation.

Founder and Executive Producer of the Nigerian Music Hall of Fame, Prince Ayodeji Adedeji, described the project as the realisation of a long held vision that began in 2009.

“Our vision is to build a world class institution, both digital and physical, that safeguards Nigeria’s musical heritage and connects it to the world,” he said.

He noted that years of planning, research and curation had gone into ensuring that the initiative meets international standards comparable to global institutions such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Prince Adedeji added that the foundation is also committed to establishing a permanent museum that will preserve the legacies of Nigeria’s greatest musical icons for generations to come.

Beyond honouring legendary performers, the event will also recognise contributions from across the wider music industry, including producers, composers, record label executives, promoters, journalists, critics and entertainment entrepreneurs.

Recipients in these categories will receive the Nigerian Music Hall of Fame Medallion of Honor in recognition of their impact on the growth and global expansion of Nigerian music.

The foundation also highlighted the importance of international recognition of Nigerian artists, referencing the global legacy of figures such as Fela Anikulapo Kuti, whose influence continues to resonate worldwide.

Organisers say the upcoming induction ceremony represents a long overdue institutional effort to formally celebrate and preserve the country’s rich and evolving musical history
