Nigerian Artist Mavo Named Billboard African Rookie of Month

Nigerian artist Mavo crowned Billboard African Rookie of the Month, with major music releases and collaborations with Wizkid and Davido planned

Nigerian young artist Oseremen Marvin, popularly known as Mavo, has been named Billboard African Rookie of the Month, marking a milestone in the 22-year-old optometry student’s burgeoning Afrobeats career.

Speaking with Billboard, Mavo hinted at ambitious plans for the coming year, promising “serious music” that he believes will “blow minds by God’s grace” during the first quarter of 2026.

Mavo has quickly solidified his reputation as one of Afrobeats’ rising talents.

He revealed that both Wizkid and Davido reached out to collaborate with him shortly after his breakthrough.

On his collaboration with Wizkid, Mavo said: “DJ Tunez texted me in September saying, ‘Wiz and you should do a song. Can you send the chorus?’ I’m like, ‘OK, can you send me the beat?’ Then he sent it. I just did my thing.” The resulting track was titled “MONEY CONSTANT.”

Regarding Davido, Mavo described the process as more direct: “He just texted me on Instagram. He’s like, ‘Could you send me “Shakabulizzy”? I want to do something.’”

The young artist, a student at Afe Babalola University in Ekiti State, continues to balance his academic pursuits with a rising music career, capturing the attention of fans and industry heavyweights alike.
