The Afrobeat singer, who married Inedoye Onyenso in 2023, was recently trolled on social media platform X, with some users accusing him of “mixing blood” and calling him a “foolish Yoruba man.”

In a powerful and intellectual response, Made Kuti highlighted the dangers of ethnic discrimination:

“Running backwards and believing ethnic superiority/inferiority is justifiable is slave mentality,” he wrote.

“It means you haven’t fully freed yourself from your nearly 500-year-old chains.”

Referencing African icons like Kwame Nkrumah, Thomas Sankara, Fela Kuti, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and Patrice Lumumba, Made urged people to educate themselves through history, and rise above colonial-era thinking.

“The healthiest way to free your mind is to read… Enlighten yourself.”
