K1 Defends Royal Lineage in Fierce Bid for Ijebu Throne

K1 defends royal lineage as he insists he has the right to contest the Awujale throne amid rising scrutiny

Legendary Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, known as K1 De-Ultimate, on Sunday in Lagos forcefully defended his ancestral roots and his right to contest the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne, declaring that critics only began questioning his background after he publicly announced his interest.

K1 defends royal lineage as the succession race gathers momentum following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona.

K1 addressed the controversy during a live performance, invoking the legacy of the late Awujale and stating that the revered monarch had personally installed him as Olori Omo-Oba Akile Ijebu, a title he argued could not have been bestowed on anyone outside the royal ancestry.

The musician reaffirmed his descent from the Fidipotemole and Fusengbuwa families of Ijebu-Ode, insisting that his lineage is legitimate and historically grounded.

In a powerful moment, he called on the spirit of the late king to “reveal the truth”, saying no attempt to suppress his heritage would succeed.

His declaration follows a formal letter submitted on 3 December 2025 to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, in which he described himself as a bona fide son of the Oba Jadiara branch.

The lineage is one of the historic arms traditionally entitled to produce the next Awujale.

However, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has requested documentary proof of his ancestry.

Its chairman, Abdulateef Owoyemi, said all contenders must complete a royal lineage data form tracing their genealogy back seven generations to ensure only true family members participate in the selection process.

Owoyemi stressed that the verification process protects the throne from impostors and preserves the integrity of the royal institution.

K1, who currently serves as the Olori Omo-Oba of Ijebuland, is expected to undergo the full screening exercise before the succession procedures formally begin.
