The Afrobeats singer, whose real name is Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, made this known during a recent interview with Zwart. He spoke about the factors behind the genre’s growing global dominance, citing Nigeria’s large population and vibrant diaspora as key drivers.

According to Joeboy, the visibility of Afrobeats is not an accident but the result of years of consistent talent and cultural pride. He emphasised the unique character of Nigerians and how their natural expressiveness contributes to the worldwide appeal of the music.

“Afrobeats is here now because it has been a long time coming. And there’s so much talent, it’s only right that we just spread it to the world,” he said. “Thankfully, Nigeria has a very huge population back home and even in the diaspora.”

He further explained that Nigerians’ bold nature made them highly visible in global spaces, reinforcing their cultural presence and pushing the music beyond borders.

“Naturally, we are very loud. That’s what they said. So, we are very out there. And, wherever we are in the world, we like to represent [our culture],” he said.

Beyond cultural pride, Joeboy also highlighted the role of digital technology and content sharing. “Social media and the quality of music coming out from Nigeria” were key accelerators, he added.
