Nigerian Afrobeats star Iyanya Mbuk has opened up about the most painful period of his life, revealing that he lost his father, brother, and mother in just two years.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Hero Daniels, the Kukere hitmaker said the tragic events began with the death of his father, shortly before a major breakthrough in his music career.

“The lowest point of my life was losing my family. My dad passed about seven or eight days before I got recruited [into music],” Iyanya said.

Soon after, his brother also passed away, adding to the weight of his grief. But the most crushing moment came on the day of a performance, when he was informed of his mother’s death just minutes before stepping on stage.

“I was backstage… just four minutes before my performance, my mom’s junior brother kept calling me. I picked up and he said, ‘Your mom is dead,’” he recalled.

Reflecting on the loss, Iyanya described the death of his entire immediate family as the darkest season of his life. He also shared how modern culture complicates emotional expression, especially online.

“We are also in this era where private love lacks verification because the norm is everybody showing off flowers, dates, kisses on social media,” he said.
