IShowSpeed Sparks Jollof Debate After Tasting Nigerian Jollof

IShowSpeed praised Nigerian jollof rice during his Lagos livestream, sparking fresh debate as fans insist Ghanaian jollof must be tasted first

American streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr., popularly known as iShowSpeed, has reignited the long-standing Nigeria–Ghana jollof rice debate after tasting Nigerian jollof during his first livestreamed day in Lagos.

The 21-year-old YouTuber, who arrived in Nigeria as part of his ongoing Africa tour, drew large crowds as he explored the city.

While live on stream, Speed sat down wearing a Nigerian football jersey to sample the local delicacy.

Although he initially complained about the spiciness of the dish, his verdict quickly excited onlookers and viewers online.

“I am not gonna lie, this food is very good. I think I would have to go with Nigeria. This is good jollof rice,” he said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

His comment immediately sparked mixed reactions online, particularly from Ghanaian fans who insisted that no conclusion could be reached without tasting Ghanaian jollof rice.

A Ghanaian bodyguard accompanying Speed also pointed out that a fair judgment would require sampling Ghana’s version.

Despite admitting he had not yet visited Ghana, Speed doubled down on his claim. “I haven’t been to Ghana yet, but I think Nigeria is better. Right now, so far, Nigeria has the best jollof rice,” he said.

The clip quickly went viral on social media, with users debating seasoning, spice levels, and national pride, once again highlighting how jollof rice remains one of West Africa’s most passionate culinary rivalries.
