Dr Mumini Alao’s autobiography was at the center of attention on Sunday, August 10, 2025, as one of Nigeria’s most respected football journalists and media managers officially launched his life story in Lagos.

The event, held at the University of Lagos, drew an impressive crowd of dignitaries, football legends, media veterans, and political leaders.
The Nigeria Football Federation chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), showered high praise on Dr Alao, calling him a rare gem in Nigerian journalism.
“He is a great journalist and media manager whose body of work speaks volumes. Very few can match his integrity, discipline, and excellence,” Gusau remarked.
Writing an autobiography is no ordinary feat, especially for a journalist who typically tells other people’s stories.
Dr Alao, Managing Director of Complete Communications Ltd, has carved a unique path by chronicling the lives of Nigeria’s football stars with unmatched professionalism and passion since the late 1980s.
His pioneering on-site interviews with Nigerian footballers abroad elevated the nation’s sports literature and helped inspire the Golden Generation’s historic 1994 World Cup qualification and Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
The event was marked by humility and grace from Dr Alao himself, whose quiet determination and businesslike approach continue to inspire a new generation of journalists and media professionals.
The auditorium was filled with luminaries from various sectors. Political heavyweights like Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, delivered a powerful address on sports development’s role in economic growth.
Football legends such as Olusegun Odegbami and Joseph Yobo joined media moguls, journalism giants, and academicians who celebrated Dr Alao’s remarkable influence.
Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, attested to Dr Alao’s professionalism, noting that the journalist had never once asked him for favors—only inviting him to witness the launch of this milestone autobiography.
Media entrepreneurs like Dr Larry Izamoje and basketball icon Olumide Oyedeji also showed their support, underlining the cross-sport and cross-industry respect Dr Alao commands.
Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, a veteran broadcaster, poetically remarked on the event, “Perhaps our own people should write more books so we can meet each other at launches like this.”
In his concluding remarks, Barrister Akinwunmi encapsulated the sentiment of the day: “You deserved no less. You are a gem that we cherish.”
