Speaking in a video shared on Instagram to mark World Cancer Day on February 4, Oreagba recounted that a routine scan on February 12, 2014, led to a diagnosis that shocked him.

“The crucial sentence was that the images indicated a high possibility of malignant activity. In a nutshell, I had been diagnosed with cancer, stage one multiple myeloma,” he said, explaining that the disease attacks plasma cells in the bone marrow.

He noted that there was no known history of cancer in his family, making the diagnosis even more unexpected.

At the time, Oreagba’s youngest child was just two years old.

“It turned my whole life around. But because I’m a stubborn kind of guy, I just decided that whatever it takes, I was going to fight this thing, give it my best shot, and see where it goes,” he said.

He revealed that treatment began immediately with chemotherapy, followed by a successful stem cell transplant in August 2014.

By February 4, 2015, Oreagba had entered complete remission a date he described as deeply symbolic.

Despite remission, Oreagba continued treatment, undergoing seven more years of chemotherapy and completing the regimen in August 2022.
