Enugu Christmas decorations light up Unity Park, major streets, and public spaces, spreading festive cheer across the state capital

Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, is aglow with vibrant Christmas decorations at Unity Park, major streets, corporate premises, schools, and shopping malls, ahead of the Yuletide celebrations.

Observations by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent on Saturday confirmed that the city has been adorned with festive lights, flowers, and Santa Claus effigies at several roundabouts and public areas.

The state government, through the Ministry of Tourism, has also beautified key streets including Independence Avenue, Chime Avenue, Ogui, Otigba, and Government House Roundabouts.

Unity Park now features an array of Christmas trees and decorative installations, while the Naira Triangle on the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway has also been dressed in festive colours.

Residents expressed delight at the decorations, highlighting their positive impact on public mood.

Joy Ibe said the displays transformed the city’s atmosphere, adding that she would visit Unity Park with her family to enjoy the festivities.

Hairstylist Jacintha Nweke recalled childhood visits to the zoo, airport, and shopping centres, noting that the decorations rekindle fond memories and evoke a sense of excitement for the season.

Civil servant Ndubisi Ugwu said the colourful streets encouraged citizens to adorn their offices, shops, and homes.

Chioma Ozo, a resident, said the decorations motivated her to buy Christmas gifts for her children despite prevailing economic challenges.

“Seeing how beautiful the state capital is, I have to make my children happy by decorating our home and taking them to recreational parks on Christmas Day,” she said.

Merchants have also reported a boost in business, with Gilbert Nwoye, a seller of festive items at Garki Market, saying customers are increasingly visiting his stall to purchase decorations and gifts.

Content creator Ifeoma Atuonwu praised the state government, noting the decorations provide influencers with opportunities to showcase Enugu positively to the world.

“Everyone is feeling the vibes of the Yuletide. I will create content featuring the decorations and festive activities,” she said.
