Speaking during a recent interview, Deyemi Okanlawon reflected on how men are often expected to carry emotional and physical burdens without immediately expressing vulnerability.

According to him, many men are conditioned to endure pressure and prioritise protection of those around them, even in moments of personal difficulty.

“My job is to protect the people around me. If gbegbe happens here now, the chances are I’m going to step in front. It’s what needs to happen; there’s no excuse,” he said.

The actor explained that this mindset influences how he responds to personal struggles, adding that he often relies on structured emotional support rather than immediate family response.

He disclosed that his first point of contact during difficult times is not his wife, but a therapist or mentor he trusts and keeps on speed dial.

“My wife is not the first person I call because she is also dealing with her own business and raising the family,” he explained.

Deyemi Okanlawon added that while he maintains that system of support, there are moments when situations become overwhelming, and he turns to his wife for emotional help.

“When it’s hitting me too hard, I’ll wake her in the middle of the night and tell her to help me,” he said.
