Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You” topped Spotify’s 2025 most shared Nigerian songs, highlighting music as a social connector and identity tool

Singer and songwriter David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, together with Omah Lay, has dominated Nigeria’s digital music landscape with their collaboration “With You,” which topped Spotify’s 2025 Wrapped list for the most shared Nigerian song.

According to Spotify, the track emerged as the most forwarded and reposted across private and public digital spaces, highlighting music’s role as a powerful social connector among Nigerians.

“It reflects a broader trend in which Nigerians use music as a personal handshake in song form, a way to say, ‘I’m thinking of you,’ without typing a word,” the streaming service said.

Following closely was Rema’s “Fun,” dominating Snapchat and Instagram where music sharing often serves as a form of self-expression.

Burna Boy’s “Love” ranked third, circulating widely across Instagram stories, Snapchat, and WhatsApp.

Faith-based tracks also made a notable impact, with Lawrence Oyor’s “Favour” in fourth place and “No Turning Back II” by Gaise Baba and Lawrence Oyor in fifth.

These gospel songs spread through WhatsApp groups, SMS, and story feeds, offering encouragement and spiritual reassurance.

Spotify’s 2025 Wrapped report revealed that social listening—through blended playlists, friends’ mixes, and collaborative playlists—transformed music into a communal ritual.

Jam sessions rose 145 per cent compared with 2024, as friends, couples, work groups, and crews shared real-time listening experiences.

Industry observers noted that Nigerians share music not just for enjoyment, but to feel close, express identity, uplift others, and foster belonging.

“Music is a social glue, a mirror of mood, a bridge across private and public spaces, and a thread weaving individuals into community,” Spotify said.

The success of “With You” underscores how certain tracks resonate beyond melody or lyrics, creating shared experiences that strengthen social bonds in Nigeria’s digital landscape.
