In a recent interview with Echo Room, CDQ recounted that Davido approached him following the buzz generated by his breakout track ‘Indomie’, expressing interest in signing him to his DMW label.

According to CDQ, Davido had just concluded a successful African tour and was looking to reinvest some of the proceeds into discovering new talent.

The rapper noted that while he appreciated the offer, he made it clear that his producer Masterkraft had to be part of any future plans.

“Davido reached out to me through Twitter back then that he wanted to sign me. He told me he just made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest it in music and make me the biggest rapper in Africa,” CDQ explained.

He said both he and Masterkraft attended a meeting with Davido to discuss the offer.

But Davido declined, and the deal fell through.

However, Masterkraft proposed a partnership deal instead of a traditional record deal, arguing that CDQ had already built a strong presence in the streets.

“Masterkraft told Davido that CDQ is already a movement on the streets and suggested a partnership instead of a recording deal,” he said.

“But Davido declined, and the deal fell through.”

Despite not joining DMW, CDQ has continued to build a successful career independently, releasing several hits and collaborating with major Nigerian artists.
