The media personality, whose real name is Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, took to his Instagram story to condemn the silence of lawmakers who, he said, reacted faster to his legal situation than to the loss of innocent lives.

Bobrisky expressed outrage that Nigerian senators and House of Representatives members had not called an emergency session to address the violence in Benue, while they were swift to act when his name was involved in a court matter.

“Senator/house representative didn’t call urgent meeting over the killing happening in Benue. But they can call urgent meeting when it comes to Bobrisky. Shame, shame! Shame! What a shameful country,” he wrote.

His comments come amid public concern over continued attacks in Benue and the apparent lack of coordinated legislative response.

The incident also highlights growing frustration among citizens who expect their elected officials to prioritise security and justice above personal or sensational matters.

Bobrisky, who was convicted in 2024 for the abuse of the Nigerian currency by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), became a trending subject again after reports suggested that he had not served prison time despite the judgement.

This renewed public and legislative attention, prompting reactions from lawmakers in a manner that he now finds hypocritical.

The media personality, who often divides public opinion with his online presence, is known for voicing his views on social issues. In this instance, his statement echoes a broader sentiment shared by many Nigerians who feel that national tragedies are too often ignored by those in power unless public pressure or personal interest forces action.

As the situation in Benue continues to unfold, Bobrisky’s criticism serves as a stark reminder that public figures, regardless of controversy, can amplify calls for accountability in governance.

Whether his words will prompt the lawmakers to shift focus remains to be seen, but they have already reignited conversations about leadership, justice and misplaced attention in Nigerian politics.
