Bella Okagbue launches a ₦2.5bn legal battle against Sheggz over alleged abuse, breach of promise to marry and defamatory publications
Nigerian reality TV star Chidimma Esther Okagbue, popularly known as Bella, has begun legal proceedings against her former partner, Segun Olusemo, also known as Sheggz, demanding about ₦2.5 billion over allegations including physical, emotional and psychological abuse.
Bella’s lawyers made the demands in a letter released on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, outlining a series of claims arising from the former couple’s relationship and subsequent breakup.
According to the legal letter, Bella is seeking compensation for alleged torture, attempted murder, verbal assault and emotional, physical and mental distress.
The lawyers also alleged that Sheggz assaulted Bella in 2023 and cited a message she reportedly sent to her mother at the time as part of the account of her experience.
“Mum please call Shegzz to let me go home, I want to go home, I’ve been disrespected enough,” Bella reportedly wrote.
The allegations have not been established in court, and Sheggz has not been reported as having responded to the latest legal demand.
Beyond the abuse-related allegations, Bella is seeking ₦19.826 million and £10,237, alongside ₦500 million for alleged breach of promise to marry.
Her lawyers are also demanding ₦2 billion in damages for what they described as physical, emotional and psychological trauma.
The legal action further seeks a public apology and the retraction of publications that Bella’s lawyers consider defamatory.
The dispute marks a dramatic turn in the relationship between the two reality stars, whose romance attracted considerable attention during and after their time on Big Brother Naija.
Their relationship later came under renewed public scrutiny following their breakup, with both personalities addressing aspects of what led to the end of their romance.
Sheggz had previously denied cheating on Bella while confirming that their relationship had ended.
Bella’s latest legal demands now move the dispute beyond social media discussions and into a potentially significant legal battle.
The amount being sought, particularly the ₦2 billion claim for alleged trauma and the additional ₦500 million claim over an alleged broken promise to marry, makes the case a potentially consequential development for both former partners.
The allegations contained in the lawyers’ letter remain claims at this stage. Any determination of liability would ultimately depend on evidence presented and considered through the appropriate legal process.
