BBNaija Dede Clears Air on Hug Refusal and House Relationships

BBNaija Dede explains her decision to avoid hugs in the house, saying it was a personal boundary and not a sign of hostility toward housemates.

BBNaija Dede, the first runner-up of Big Brother Naija Season 10, has addressed the widespread conversation surrounding her refusal to hug fellow housemates, insisting it was a matter of personal boundaries, not animosity.

In a post-show interview with host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Dede explained how her stance shaped her interactions in the house, especially with male contestants.

While some, including housemate Bright Morgan, labelled her behaviour as “weird,” Dede stood firm in her choice.

“I think what was actually weird was how they took it,” she said. “I’m like, okay, so what if I don’t want to hug? What if I don’t like hugs or what if I have to build a particular thing with you before I want to hug you? The world will keep spinning even if I’m here or not—so how is it a big deal?”

The BBNaija Dede moment sparked discussions among fans, but the reality star reiterated that personal comfort and emotional boundaries played a key role in her decision.

“Even till today, I still don’t get why I don’t like hugs,” she added, suggesting it’s just how she’s wired.

Dede also responded to fellow housemate Mide’s claim that she had sought out their friendship. According to her, no such conversation ever took place.

“First things first, we really do appreciate the fact that we had something in the house. It made my life easier for the most part. But we never had that conversation. I never said, ‘We have to be friends,’” she clarified.

Reflecting further, Dede noted that she had jokingly mentioned earlier in the season that their closeness might lead to conflict.

However, the real disappointment came when Mide failed to show up for her when she needed support most.

“At that particular time, I just needed her to really show up like she said she would,” she said. “So when she didn’t, I was like, you know what, I’ll just let it go.”
