Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi Marks 70th with 9-Day Festival

Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi celebrates his 70th birthday in Ilesa with a 9-day festival of culture, music, thanksgiving, and community impact tributes

Exactly five months after the majestic coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the gold city of Ilesa in Osun State is once again aglow — this time to celebrate the 70th birthday of one of Ijesaland’s most illustrious sons, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi.

A global gathering has begun in earnest for the 9-day event in honour of Fasuyi — a celebrated management consultant, philanthropist, and President/CEO of Ibadan Business School — with festivities kicking off today, Friday, 17 October 2025, with a Jumat Service at Ilesa Central Mosque, followed by a grand reception by the Ijesa Sports Club.

The event promises a whirlwind of colour, culture, music, and heartfelt gratitude to mark a milestone in the life of a man whose influence stretches across education, business, traditional leadership, and philanthropy.

Speaking about the rationale behind the elaborate celebration, Asiwaju Fasuyi reflected deeply on his journey:

“Many have not been able to fathom why I am dedicating nine days for my 70th birthday,” he said. “But if I celebrate this birthday for two weeks, it won’t be enough to praise God for His mercies. It can only be God.”

His words set the tone for a week that is more of a thanksgiving festival than a mere birthday party.

The meticulously planned schedule includes:

  • Friday, 17 Oct: Jumat Service at Ilesa Central Mosque (1pm), Reception by Ijesa Sports Club (5pm)
  • Saturday, 18 Oct: Ayo Game at Iwude House (2pm)
  • Sunday, 19 Oct: Musical Orchestra at Herrigan Hotel (2pm)
  • Monday, 20 Oct: Visit to Orphanages (11am), Cultural Day at Civic Centre (2pm)
  • Tuesday, 21 Oct: Symposium and IDF Launch at Gold City Centre (11am)
  • Wednesday, 22 Oct: Lectures & 9th Asiwaju Anniversary at Zenabab Hotel (11am)
  • Thursday, 23 Oct: Ijesa Diasporans Day at Zenabab Hotel (12pm)
  • Friday, 24 Oct: Birthday Open House (12pm)
  • Saturday, 25 Oct: Thanksgiving at Cathedral Church of Holy Trinity (10am), Grand Reception and Book Launch at Zenabab Hotel (1pm)

Born on 25 October 1955, Asiwaju Fasuyi has built a legacy in management consultancy, education, traditional leadership and philanthropy. He has worked with institutions such as the World Bank, AfDB, UNDP, and numerous Nigerian government agencies.

As the founder of the Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi Foundation (AYFF), his philanthropic feats include sponsoring over 2,500 WAEC candidates across six LGAs in Ijesaland, and driving infrastructure development across Osun State.

Under his leadership as Chairman of the Ijesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA), Fasuyi has initiated and executed transformative projects, such as:

  •  Restoration of electricity to Ijesaland after a critical infrastructure dispute
  •  Peace-building summits between traditional rulers
  •  Establishment of the Ijesa Mineral Resources Development Forum (IMRDF)
  •  Construction of the ultra-modern Owa Obokun Palace
  •  Building the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre, the largest of its kind in West Africa
  •  Mobilising over ₦17 million for post-disaster relief in Ilare-Ijesa

His impact on Ijesaland is evident in infrastructure, unity, peace, and human capital development.

Chairman of the 32-member Planning Committee, Oba Moses Olufemi Agunsoye, the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, assured that the event had been clinically planned for a smooth experience, including top-notch logistics, hospitality, and security.

“With God on our side, everything shall go smoothly… and great testimonies shall follow,” Oba Agunsoye said.

In many ways, the birthday celebration is more than a personal milestone. It serves as a symbol of excellence, gratitude, and inspiration — a showcase of what is possible when vision meets service.
