Apple Music Nigeria chart manipulation has sparked serious controversy, with Nigerian singer Magixx publicly accusing artists of paying their way to the top of the charts.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Mavin Records signee voiced his frustration, alleging that chart positions are now bought, not earned.

“Just so y’all know, the reason why we don’t have enough breakout artists these days is because almost every spot on Apple Music is bought,” he wrote.

Magixx didn’t stop there. He also criticized fellow musicians for falsifying streaming numbers and misleading their supporters. “Y’all faking your numbers. I hope you sleep well at night… Keep deceiving your family members,” he added in a scathing follow-up post.

Rapper Blaqbonez quickly backed his claims, describing the situation as a “showcase of the people who can afford to buy it.”

He compared it to the iTunes manipulation era of the early 2000s and warned that the industry is heading toward collapse if these practices continue.

In a pointed reference to fellow artist Ayra Starr, Blaqbonez lamented, “Ayra’s hot body never enters the top 10 NG, when we know that song should be number 1 or top  but how dem go let me, when she never does industry agriculture.”
